KS 3 & 4 What happened to the dinosaurs?

Using a life-sized model of the Jurassic Park star, the theropod Velociraptorinae Deinonychus, which means 'Terrible Claw', and dozens of other genuine fossils and replicas, we present a session that discusses the evidence that climate change (and the different possible causes of it) brought to an end the reign of the most successful inhabitants to ever roam the earth. We also investigate how this major extinction event drove evolution both by clearing the way for mammals to succeed and allowing birds, that almost certainly evolved from the smaller theropod dinosaurs, to flourish.

This workshop is ideal for enlivening KS3 studies in The Environment, The Earth and The Universe: Changes in the Environment, Extinction and Climate Change.

The KS4 session perfectly links into 21st Century Science including evolution, the origins of life on earth, environmental change and its impact, etc. (Eg, OCR How did the dinosaurs die?)

Pupils will have the chance to get up close to a range of materials and resources, to handle, sketch and ask questions.
